Everton scores early to end Brentford’s unbeaten run in EPL LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Dwight McNeil’s goal after just 35 seconds was enough to give Everton another 1-0 win at Goodison Park on Saturday as Sean Dyche’s team climbed two points clear of the English Premier League relegation zone by ending Brentford’s long unbeaten run.McNeil proved effective at both ends of the pitch as the winger’s third goal of the season was accompanied by a second-half goalline clearance.Everton recorded a third victory by a single goal in four home games.McNeil’s strike was Everton’s earliest winning goal in the ground’s 131-year history.Dyche’s team then defended relentlessly as Brentford laid siege to the Everton goal in the second half as the visitor sought to keep alive its 12-game unbeaten league run stretching back to October.Brentford’s club-record top-flight unbeaten streak of 14, set in 1936, was also ended by Everton at Goodison Park. The win lifted Everton to 15th place, two points above the drop zone.___More AP soccer: https://a...

Leeds in EPL relegation zone after 2-2 draw with Brighton LEEDS, England (AP) — Jack Harrison rescued a point for Leeds in a 2-2 home draw against Brighton and it was not enough to lift his side out of the English Premier League relegation zone on Saturday.Harrison curled home a 78th-minute equalizer having earlier scored an own goal to give Brighton a 2-1 lead, as Leeds twice hit back against the in-form visitor.Alexis Mac Allister’s header was canceled out by Patrick Bamford’s equalizer before the break and Harrison made amends for turning the ball into his own net in the second half with a well-taken finish.Leeds dropped into the bottom three before kickoff after Bournemouth’s surprise home win against Liverpool, and stayed in 19th place despite the point. Brighton’s opener came after Pascal Gross picked out Kaoru Mitoma at the far post and his header back across the face of goal was headed home by Mac Allister.Bamford then collected a pass on the edge of the area and crashed home an equalizer via a deflection off Adam Webster and the c...

Chelsea wins again, Liverpool loses at Bournemouth in EPL LONDON (AP) — Chelsea might finally be finding its stride under Graham Potter while Liverpool’s up-and-down season took another nosedive in the English Premier League on Saturday.Chelsea made it three straight wins in all competitions for the first time since October by beating Leicester 3-1 away, another sign that the expensively assembled team is starting to gel under Potter.Liverpool, though, followed its record 7-0 win over archrival Manchester United by losing 1-0 at relegation-threatened Bournemouth — a team it beat 9-0 at home in August. That threw away much of the momentum Liverpool generated recently after a woeful first half of the season, and Jurgen Klopp’s team is six points behind fourth-placed Tottenham in the fight for the final Champions League place, albeit with a game in hand.Tottenham beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 at home after Harry Kane scored twice in the first half.Bournemouth began the day in last place but climbed up to 17th, with Everton also leaving the releg...

Oscars race: Clock ticks for buffs to binge nominated films NEW YORK (AP) — A film buff from Oklahoma City, Elyssa Mann has scant time to waste, needing to cross just four more movies off her Oscars list before Sunday’s Academy Awards broadcast: Two animated films, one for cinematography and another for costume design. In the San Francisco Bay Area, Steve Tornello has just one left — the latest “Avatar” — before he can fairly judge all 10 of the best picture nominees. In the perfect multiverse, time would bend to allow movie fans to watch anything anywhere, all at once. But in the real world, not the googly eyed one, time keeps ticking and that makes things difficult for diehard film enthusiasts hoping to fill every bracket in their personal Oscars scoresheets.“I have four Oscars movies left in my quest to watch all the ones nominated for picture/acting/craft etc,” Mann wrote in a tweet, “and this somehow feels insurmountable.”As it is, Sunday morning’s time change (don’t forget to spring forward) will mean an hou...
